End of Term Reflection

This term in art was very fun and interesting. I think that my biggest successes were my destroyed Boston pencil drawing and surprisingly, my candy painting. I really liked my Boston drawing and how I could really see it coming together as I did it. With my candy painting, this was not so much. Until I put it away for a few days then looked at it again, I couldn't really see the wrapper. While I was working on it, it just looked like a mess up with white paint. Now I can kinda see how the wrapper works. And I'm starting to like the painting itself. This painting was also one of my biggest challenges this term. I've never really worked with/liked paint or color. So this painting really challenged me and made me push myself a lot.
Over this term through this art class and exploring on my own time, I've discovered that I really like working with a brush, not really with paint, but with ink. I also kinda faced my fears about paint. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I guess. Overall, I think I've expanded my borders a lot and have really had a fun time in this class. I really hope to take oil painting or advanced 2D with you next year ^_^

News Story Project

I'm centering around the ballet and the power the ballerinas show through their dance. I''m very inspired by Degas and perhaps am going to take a view from behind the curtains.
For now my article is http://www.boston.com/ae/theater_arts/articles/2009/09/21/a_sparkling_sneak_peek_from_boston_ballet/ but I probably will change it.

Drawing From Observation: Placement & Proportion

During this process I didn't feel very frustrated. I always start with a really rough sketch and then start to add details. This felt pretty natural for me, but I was facing it head on which took a lot of erasing and sketching. I felt okay with the out come of my drawings but they could've been better.

Pre-Assesment.

3/1/10
I felt most comfortable with the observation drawing. If I have the object in front of me then I can capture the details and how it looks pretty easily. I also really like drawing from imagination because it allows me to create scenarios and situations and that's really fun for me. The problem with drawing from imagination, is that I can't see the things that I'm drawing so it's a lot harder to get down on paper.
